پیکرۀ شاپور اول در غار شاپور

پیکرۀ شاپور اول، شاهنشاه #ساسانی (۲۳۹ تا ۲۷۰ م.) در غار شاپور، بیشاپور، فارس. این پیکرۀ بزرگ و بسیار ارزشمند (با حدود ارتفاع ۷ و پهنای شانه‌های ۲ متر) که بیش از هزار سال به خاک افتاده بود در سال ۱۳۳۶ خورشیدی به کوشش نیروهای ارتش ایران دوباره پابرجا گردید. #هنر_ساسانی #آثار_ملی

The great statue of Shapur (Šāpūr) I stands in the so-called cave of Shapur, a huge limestone cave in southern Iran (Figure 1), about 6 km from the ancient city of Bišāpur. The cave of Shapur contains two different sectors. Sector A encompasses the entrance area of the cave and has five wide man-made terraces. The statue of Shapur I, situated circa 35 meters from the cave’s entrance, stands on the fourth terrace of the sector A. Sector B is a huge hall with several corridors...

It was part of the decoration of the iwan of the "palace" of Shapur I at Bishapur, the new capital of the Sassanid Empire, built after the king's victories over Rome.
